I have a kind of odd personal issue -- I don't like fur. I don't mind leather, because, at least in principle, we also eat the beef the leather comes from. Many fur animals, however, are mostly wasted after the fur is taken.

So I have a question -- is a fur sporran absolutely essential to formal kilt dress? If not, what would you recommend in its place? What would you think of someone wearing a patent leather sporran to a black-tie event?
