My first real kilt in action
Howdy,
My freinds produced some images of me actually IN my kilt.
I've got a few retail kilts of synthetic Asian origin, but the desire to make my own was too strong. In the middle of our busy season last fall, I made myself a promise. When all the dust cleared in the spring, I would craft a fine piece of wool for use in the field. I spend my free time in the woods, so the Mackenzie Weathered was my first choice. on our yearly trip to see the elder clansmen, my father and I cracked a few bottles of spirits, and spent some quality time working around his dining room table.
Here's it's first use during a fund raiser for a local non profit. (per approval of the moderators)

For my 40th this September, I've got a 4 meter piece of the Mackenzie modern in regimental weight, several bolts of Barathea, satin, two sets of buttons, and a generous length of hair canvas. Heaven help me if I ever get a wood lathe, I might just let the neighbors hear some real tunes.
The hard specs:
6.75 meters (skinny butt) of Braeriach
18 ounce wool lined aprons
5/8" top grain tan apron straps lined with suede, and sold brass buckles that straddle my belt.
Machine stitched 'Blind'- heretical, but I've got several decades of false confidence with machinery.
Cheers,
Kevin.
PS- hand tied garters don't seem to behave very well.
