The best "measurement guide" should be obtained from whoever you are hiring to make your kilt.

Welcome from Roswell Georgia. When you measure yourself for a kilt remember,

    the tape does not lie,
    but pants manufacturers do.
    ALWAYS honor the tape,
and you garment will fit you.

I just noticed that McMurdo posted a link to my web site and the measurements I use for a Contemporary Kilt.

Please remember that this system of measuring is ONLY for a Freedom Kilt!

Rule no 1 is to use the measuring instructions from your kiltmaker.
Rule no 2 is to measure exactly! Never use your trouser size!

If you would like to review my measuring system and the video I produced ok, but use them as a reference only. I do compare the different waist heights in the video and that may be a help to you understand the difference between the fit of a kilt and the fit of trousers.

It also may help you to look over the photos in the "show us your pics" section. Look closely at the waist on some of the kilts in the photos.

Welcome from Vancouver Island. That's a little chunk of rock that broke off from paradise and decided to move over closer to the rest of the world so we could visit with other kilties, who freeze in winter or sweat in summer, and make them jealous .
