I would recommend a winter weight cotton kilt from Freedom Kilts. Mine is very warm and very heavy. The fabric gets softer with each washing and is very comfortable. I wore mine this past November, shovelling snow when the temp was -10 C. And with all those pleats and the double thickness of the apron, I felt not a drop of moisture. Good luck in your search.

Agreed. All my kilts are 11 ounce traditional kilts and they keep me warm in Seattle winters (between 30F and 50F). The choice of kilt hose will make quite a bit of difference.

You could go with a solid color wool kilt. Freedom kilts can put slash pockets on a kilt for you also.
USA Kilts has solid color wool on their web site
 http://www.usakilts.com/solid_5yarder.php

Freedom kilts doesn't show solid color wool but you might drop Steve an email and see if he can get the color you want.

Non-traditional with pockets?Freedom Kilts (mentioned above), RKilts (I wore my hemp RKilt in -10C last winter, not including wind chill), make your own (lined?) Xkilt ...

I would recommend against Utilikilts - winter winds whip right under that half apron to places you don't want wind chill.

					Hi guys,
 Thanks for the help!

I checked most of the references you send me. I will try to reply to most of your comments at once...

I have nothing against traditional kilts, but I would prefer to get a non-traditional one by now. Freedom Kilts are really something. But I would have to go for a Cargo one, and this is out of my budget by now (however it is on my future plans). USA Kilts and RKilt falls in the same budget problem.

I really like the idea of making a kilt for myself. But I will need a sewing machine.

I am thinking in a SWK Standard. It is 7 yards of material, so I think it should be ok... In the end I am going traditional

Please, if you think this is not a good choice, let me know why.

 Thanks all again,

 Arnaldo

Well that kilt would not be my first choice for winter wear, and I would not call a Stillwater a Traditional kilt, sorry to burst the bubble but it is a far cry from a traditional kilt, as I own traditional kilts I think I am in a place to direct you somewhat. Of course you get what you pay for and I am only too familiar with a budget, and the constraints that they can put on you, if you want to go with Stillwater I can understand that, you might want to save a little more and go for a heavyweight, as it will give you more warmth than the Standard, as it is wool, and the standard is an acrylic blend.

Aye, I have the box pleater and the Black Watch HW in my kollection. For winter warmth I think my SWK BWHW will be seeing some wear. The Merino wool in the Black Watch heavyweight is heavier than the others. Subjectively and according to Jerry.
