You look GREAT...and very happy to be kilted!
I agree with McMurdo...navy blue hose would look excellent!

Looking good! A man in a kilt is a man and a half.
As mentioned, I don't think it needs to be hemmed, it looks to be about the right length as is.

I already like the Arizona tartan, and I have blood connections to MacPherson and Murray (through my mother, who is a Fleming), as well as Gilmore.

You've obviously been doing your homework CS; very fine first outfit. I would agree with the minor tweaks that have been suggested & really can't add anything further.
Since you're just about an hour-and-a-half up the road, I hope to be able to show you the Arizona tartan sometime soon. I think every Zonie kiltie should have one!
Having a connection to a tartan is nice, I mean, I've got my clan hunting tartan & the Arizona tartan (& soon my XMTS tartan), but for me, the main criteria is - Do I like the looks of the tartan? That's reason enough for me.
Anyway, as for your first kilt, as Rod Stewart sang, "You wear it well..."

Looking good!
Kilt length and belt look great!
An alternative to a longer sporran strap is a pair of "hangers" that drop down from your belt...they are sometimes a good solution as they minimize the apron's crinkling up due to the strap on us larger folk.

I looked at a pair of those hangers but can't for the life of me remember where I saw them.

Sounds like you've got some "material" to work with. I have a Gilmore/Morrison line. Here is my kilt for such. Morrison "red" in the ancient shade.
