There was a forum member at one time (forgive me if I do not remember who it was) who owned a kilt from the QVS; the tartan in question is Stewart Hunting.

If I recall correctly, the kilt is part of the dress uniform of Queen Victoria School, rather than the everyday uniform.

In my secondary (high) school in Scotland in the 1940/50s a few boys wore kilts every day to school. It was incorporated into the school uniform i.e. they wore school blazers with the kilt - which, being standard jacket length, didn't do much for their appearance. So far as I can remember it was not a defined part of the uniform but it was certainly tolerated. Each wore a different tartan. There wasn't even much attempt to match the school colours. The kilt was simply taken as normal everyday wear. Their mothers chose the kilt as economical dress for their boys.

In my primary/junior (first) school, which was in a less wealthy area than the secondary one, some boys would wear a kilt on special occasions (e.g. when a class photo was to be taken) rather than every day. Again it was taken as normal (but smart) wear. (These boys would also wear the kilt to the kirk on a Sunday.) I have distinct memories of these boys playing football (soccer) in their kilts on a very threadbare pitch covered in cinders rather than grass (we did not go in for football strip when playing internal matches) so the indestructibility of the kilt was certainly put to the test.

Cirthalion (who posts erratically at present) has shared with the NY Rabble his memories of having attended a high school in Ontario where the kilt was the mandatory everyday wear for the student body. Sorry, but I never got the name.

At one time at St. Andrew's College ( SAC ) in Aurora, Ontario, there was an option in the dress code for the boys to wear the kilt. They have, in addition, a cadet corps and a pipe band.
