Well it's not required but it helps, I have always loved the sound of the pipes, heck I'll even stop the car to go talk to a piper just because.

A pipe band never fails to stir my blood and a lone piper, playing well, needs to be at least 100 yards away to get the notes just so,for my hearing anyway. There is nothing better.

I agree with that. I love the sound of pipes but alone they can sometimes be a bit much for my ears. However, the addition of drums changes it entirely and it is my preferred "style" of pipe music. There are a few exceptions to this of course - amazing grace by a lone piper is truly moving.

A few years back I spent 6 months in Bulgaria and was completely astonished to find that one of their traditional instruments was a set of bagpipes. I had always thought of bagpipes as a strictly Scottish instrument until then.

Yep! I've always loved the bagpipes, very stirring; must be genetic. Most of my friends hate 'em!

I love the sound of the pipes playing, especially a lone piper.

Check this out - there are thirty pages each with a different bagpipe from around the world!
