Makeitstop,
Those folks that came to your defense are your real friends, the others are not. The others are ignorant and are bigots. Not worth devoting any time to spend with or to try to explain the joys of wearing a kilt. What's sad is, probably 60% of the folks who mocked you probably have some degree of Scottish ancestry.
Slainte,
Daniel

Daniel is correct. The operative term is ignorant bigots.

Well, perhaps your university should require more history classes for the slower students. There is no historic record of the "founder" of IVCF ever wearing pants. The "founder" prefered to dress in an unbifurcated manner...
Kilt on!

That's the same org I was referring to, and yes, we're being good and dancing around the mods here.
That's the same mentality as a woman, complaining about my beard, telling my wife that her "founder" didn't have a beard.
Of course, the "founder" also left pretty good instructions for stuff like this: go back to basic, start again and go over it slowly.
Also said something like "render unto the mods what is the mods'" so let's stay good here.

Mr. MacDougall, I don't know what this IV group is either. I'm guessin its one of those off limits topics though. When in doubt, google...

I don't think that we are discussing the organization itself, so I wouldn't think that naming the organization would be a problem.
IV, IVF, or IVCF all usually refer to Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship. It is a student organization.

Yes I have on occasion told them that if they could find in the erm... "Handbook" where it says that the "founder" wore jeans, I would never wear a kilt again.
And for the record, I didn't say IV to avoid mods, as I didn't think we would go down that particular road anyway, that's just what everyone calls it around here. I thought it would be a good idea to name the group, as I do a lot of stuff with them, all my friends around here are in the group, and so it is likely I will talk about it again, and "IV" is shorter than "this college group I belong to that I have mentioned before"
Edit: And yeah, they are still my friends. I just have to educate and/or annoy them until they learn to accept the kilt. None of them has tried to end our friendship over this, it's just a topic for a little witty banter and mutual teasing. You can't let something this small get in the way of friendship.
Remember: Friends help you move. Real friends help you move bodies.
Edit again:

Yes, that's the group. Most of the time when we aren't calling it IV we say intervarsity, which makes most people think it's some sort of sports group. I have a bad habit of telling people it stands for Intervarsity cage fighting.

The Kilt does not need defending, It speaks for itself.
