Now that's thinking the hike before the brewery. Must make note of this.

Sounds like an excellent day! Please count me in. How strenuous a hike are you planning on? I may be tempted to bring a friend, but not a hiker, per se.

We'll tailor the hike to the crowd that shows up and the weather. There are lots of good trails in the area that are lovely this time of year and are not particularly strenuous. The only thing to be careful of is that everyone wears good footwear as you will be on rock some of the time and in sneakers the bottoms of the feet get mighty tender.
And back to the suggestion by MacWage....Dupont State Forest is not too far from Hendersonville, and has great trails and the largest waterfalls in the state. I'd vote for that as a destination.

Mr. and Mrs. LeAcadianEmbaumer are a tentative yes, at least for the afternoon and evening activities.

Sounds like a fine time. Unfortunately, my fiance works weekends. We are usually available moreso during the week. We're also new to hiking and look forward to progressing toward the wonders of the western part of the state. Perhaps we will meet later rather than sooner one of these days.

Don't hesitate to drop me a note whenever you want to come out this way. If I can't get out with you I can at least offer some advice!

Shameless bump.
I'll be calling for a show of hands early next week so I can finalize the tour plans.

OK, here's the call for a head count for the weekend.
Myself, my youngest son, MadBagpiper, Barclay...that's four hikers.
I propose that we meet for breakfast at Denny's in Black Mountain. It's right at the foot of exit 64 off I-40, so it's easy to find. Should be an excellent opportunity to "baffle the locals." From there it's a short drive to the trail head in Montreat. If we meet there at Denny's at 7:30 that would give us 2 1/2 to 3 hours for walking, which would be long enough to get up to Walker's Knob, the best view in the area.
If you plan on going on the tour, please reply here so I can tell the brewery that we are good to go. We need at least 5 more bodies to be polite to the folks that arranged the special tour time. I can recruit some of my bifurcated buddies to join us if I have to.
