I was the recipient of the first presentation box that he made, and I love it. I can testify to the quality of construction and fine eye for detail that Ethan (ehiker) has. I don't have a pic of mine at present, but I'll try and post one soon.

No worries, Mang, I got you covered!

Here are some pics of the first sgian dubh presentation box I made...

I originally wanted to inlay something into the lid, but I found this great piece of wood with a knot in it and used that, instead. At that point, an inlay would have competed with the knot for attention and I didn't want that.

This box has a sliding lid vs. a hinged lid.

I did want to incorporate some bog oak into the box, so I decided to add it to the lid, giving an indication of where to slide it open.

I love working with bog oak... once you hit it with any kind of an oil finish, that dark coloring just pops and you can see the thousands of years of history in the grain.

Finally, I build an insert that was fitted to Matt's sgian dubh and included a spot where I inlaid a silver medallion Rab had given me with the sgian dubh's serial number in it.

I was extremely pleased with how this box turned out, as it was one of my very first ventures into box making.
