I read this little blurb in Wiki.

The landscape is beautiful; Arcosanti leaves something to be desired.

The kilt looks nice. The area looks nice. Arcosanti itself? Not so much...
Anyway, you should have brought a great plaid. It's a little known fact that it was invented in the highlands during a hotel labor shortage in the 15th Century. If no one had changed the sheets, the Scot could just lay his plaid across the bed and hope he had toilet paper...

Unfortunately Arcosanti leaves a lot to be desired. Great aspiration and vision, But they do lack in the amenities. Great if you want to live in the wilds and be part of a community, but I much prefer my showers and code approved structures. Evidently if you live in there community you can't be disabled, but I'm just a lowly code checker. What would I know. To bad we didn't know we live only about 40 minutes from Arcosanti, It would have been nice to meet you.

Thanks Red Raven,
Had it not been a birthday party we were invited to would have seen if we could connect with the Prescott rabble. But this was a down and back gig arriving late Sat afternoon, doing the party, attempting to sleep, and driving home in the morning. About a 450 mile jaunt.
Thanks for the pic Grant. The little strip of a "motel" we were in was even lower than the pool in the lower right corner of the pic and around behind what the photo shows. And the crane has been moved down to just above us.
And RR, you are so right. The closest thing I saw to any sort of building code was the smoke detector in our room.

It probably didn't have a battery in it.
The last time I went out to Arcosanti, we took the tour. Our guide was prone to little fits of giggling at odd moments, for no apparent reason.

I think he was working in the serving line of the Cafe last night....
With all the weird buildings and "unusual" people I kept telling my lady, "We're on another Planet....we really are...we're on another Planet."
While on the one hand it was very nice to not have a single kilt comment...to be accepted dressed as I was...it WAS different....
The birthday girl stayed in the "Sky Suite" which the desk folks talked up as a "huge" room. When we got there for the predinner gathering it was quite small, and everything built in like aboard a submarine or a plane.
The phrase "altered level of consciousness" came to mind often.
And, thanks to the locals for the validation of the experience...I'm not crazy...I'm not crazy... "Mother, look, he's wearing a 'skirt' and spring shoes...he's probably crazy...and look out, there's a knife in his sock...
God, grant me some empathy and understanding for the people of this Planet as they have apparently accepted me....oh, and God...could you bring me a roll of TP....
Amen

Wow, your experience was completely different from mine. I went with my ex-girlfriend, and our discussion afterwards revolved around Solieri's ideas of arcology, how much we'd like to live in a place like that, and what a great project it was.

Aye, MacDougall,
I even felt a bit of shame that in all these years I'd never made the short side trip to check the place out. I enjoy places of vision like that. Probably would also agree had we not stayed the night....
