On the minus side, the parents will have to deal with the idiots who assume the baby is a girl, since he's wearing a skirt.

Considering that you can dress up a baby in pink ruffles and put bows on them, but have them in a navy blue car seat and people assume they are a boy... people are idiots anyway when it comes to babies, so you might as well.

Unfortunately true. Now that you mention it I had an acquaintance that had a kilt for his newborn son. He told us it was almost universal from those who did not already know the baby was a boy, that they presumed it was a girl because of the "skirt".

True, but the whole colour deal is the problem. Unfortunately if people see a "skirt" they will definitely think girl. You can't accessorise a baby in a kilt the way a man would.

I got a fantastic one from Pete at www.canadiancasualkilts.com
However since it is for a six month old, can I suggest that you have a look at tartantown here in BC. They sell a baby* and a youth kilt for around $20-$30. Here is the link http://www.tartantown.com/clothing.html I have seen these in the shop a few times and for the price and for a baby, they are great.
Remember that baby clothes are pretty generic and that it is always wise to go a size or to up. I would suggest the 12-24 month size

Get a onesie (One piece outfit that snaps at the bottom) from the baby section and go to the fabric store and get some cotton flannel and make a kilt and sew it right to the onesie. Have something like "the babes love me in my kilt" embroidered on the top and you have a kilt outfit for a 6 month old. I needs to be washable.

We just got a babysportkilt from the kilted nation for my son. He had been wearing a size 5 (he is a size 2). The babysportkilt is a much better fit. It has very few pleats and they are very shallow. But for the price I'd buy another.

That is his size 5. No pictures of the babykilt yet.
