I will wrap and tie it around the base of the post mount and again around the pin.

    Very secure.

I just clip it off with nail clippers before removing the pin and sending the kilt to the cleaners.

Now if you were a Buchannon (sp?) you would want to use the yellow waxed hemp!

Eyeglash glue? I have not heard that one. A drop of clear nail polish or lok-tite (the kind that can be broken loose manually) also works to hold the clasp shut. But I prefer the rubber band system as it there's no fear of having anything come off (glue, wax, etc.) one one of my precious kilts!

P.S. I learned the nail polish trick as a kid--a drop applied to the screws in your eyeglasses will keep them from backing out and being lost. Four-eyes as a kid is bad, but only three is worse!

I have a potload of pins from a place I used to work (slave) for. They are about 3/4 across, round and flat faced. They all have a pin and a retainer. I have sanded them down and used them on other things. None of which I thought to photograph. If any one is interested, I will send them out a few.
