Taking Ron's idea a step farther
Ok, how about instead of turning our kilts about one hundred and eighty degrees (and you know it looks really bad that way), how about you get your flat front apron and a rear apron too with the pleats on either side ?
(In my defense this came to me early this morning while I was semi-conscious and suffering from that sore throat/fever/coughing thing that's going around. That and a really stupid dream combining a bunch of stuff I saw on the Food Network last night ... )
I've not sat down and tried to figure out how this might work or look but since you threw it out there, well sir there it is.
CT - narrow aprons of course and yeah, it's make sitting down easier.

Why oh why oh why can't men also have a smooth kilt backside to sit on with the pleats in the front? A lot less worry about wrinkled pleats.
The kilts probably wouldn't swish as much but sitting would be a LOT easier....common sense....am I right or what??
Never mind tradition, lets grab a handful of common sense and lean over the edge of the envelope and explore the possibilities....

Simple solution - Before you sit down, twist the entire kilt around and sit down on the front side, and then when you stand up twist it around the right way.....
