I think you have to choose your battles carefully. If it was me, I'd start thinking about buying a Ferrari. It's amazing how a proposed purchase like that can make kilt wearing look sensible to even the most jaundiced wife.

Have to agree with Rex. Do not include me among the "most"
I wear kilts a lot but not everywhere I go.
I pick and choose if I want to wear a kilt or not depending on where i'm going.

Take her to a kilt night. If she sees others in kilts, maybe she will see things differently. If not, well, wear it anyway.

My wife said the same thing but now she helps pick out the what to wear with the kilt when we go to the theatre. Because of my job I can't always wear a kilt, need to wear coveralls and such. So some times Time will help you to be able to wear the Kilt more often.

Sad, when a man finds his bliss that the woman who "loves" him wants to take it away.
Reminds me a lot of how some parents treat their kids - denying the child's reality.
"That hurt." No it didn't, stop your crying there's nothing to cry about. You want something to cry about I'll give you something to cry about.
"I'm hungry." No you're not. You've had too much to eat already.
"I have to go to the bathroom." No you don't. We only have another hour to drive. You can go to the bathroom when we get there.
"I'm scared." There's nothing to be scared about.
"I love kilts." Well forget about them, I'll tell you what to wear.
One of the great things about this miracle of a planet is that the Creator of this rotating rock annointed it with BILLIONS of women.
I have found through experimentation that if I go to an online website like Yahoo personals or Match.com and include the word "Kilts" in my search that there are hundreds of women who like kilts so much they mention it in their personals profile. Now there have to be THOUSANDS more that love a man in a kilt but don't think to include it in their personals.
Not suggesting you alter your vows. Just saying for men who are single for whatever reason, and are looking for a female friend who likes kilts, the Internet can give you perspective on just how many ladies do love kilts and a place to meet them.
This is soooo crazy...'cause we all know that whatever type of underwear your wife chooses to wear if you were STUPID enough to suggest she wear a different kind of underwear because you don't much like the kind she wears there would be Hell to pay for sure.
Sorry...rambling...clambering down of the soapbox now.

As a friend once related to me his mother's wisdom, "There's a lid for every pot."
The trouble with online personals sites is that your perfect match is always on the other side of the country, or globe, or, as in my case, a nine-hour drive away.
I don't think Keys was contemplating shopping for a new wife to go with his kilts, though. Just noting the place where they are in their journey together.

All fine answers, men.
Now, she would SAY no, but in reality, she would never not (if you will) allow me to wear what I choose. Her saying "NO" was simply her way of saying "I don't dig it". I have supported her too much and given her too much for her to actually mean "NEVER".
For the gentleman who said he'd lose a portion of respect for allowing her to coerce him into not wearing a kilt is obviously not in my position. I don't think there is ANYthing I could do to lose any respect in her eyes. It's that kind of relationship...a rare one.
If I were to be taking her out to dinner, say, and I donned my MacQuarrie tartan and a nice shirt and some finely polished boots (only kind I have), she might give me 'the eye', but she would never say something like, "If you're wearing that, I'm not going!!!" Yet, knowing she would prefer me not to, by wearing it 'in her face', I believe I would lose something. It's a give and take...not an "all me" or "all you". She does, after all, have her dream car...the last year Firebird convertible...and she allows me pretty much anything I desire...I have a garage full of projects to prove it...and the finest keyboard she could afford.
And yes, she will be attending the Highland Games in Phx with me kilted in two weeks, followed by a Kilt Night out with the Sonoran Scotsmen. I think she'll learn to, if not dig it, at least accept it...but like I said, it may be a long road.

At first, my wife wasn't thrilled with the idea of me wearing a kilt, but she has come around. In fact, I was putting on dress slacks for her company's belated holiday party last night and she insisted I wear a kilt instead. She said it's the nicest thing I have in the closet.
She'll warm up to it.

Your advice is probably the best I've seen yet, O Surly One. I know for sure, my kilt is the nicest thing in MY closet...
