I wouldn't touch a Practikilt with somebody else's ten foot pole. Museum Replicas may have some good stuff on their site, but they don't seem to know a thing about kilts.

Gee, and I'm usually the anti-snob.

According to the web site you can even wear one to a RenFair with your traditional claymore!

I tried one on in their store in Atlanta. I didn't buy it.

When I first saw the thread title I saw it as Practice-Kilt... Perhaps that is more telling.

This is after all the “Contemporary & Non-Traditional Kilts” section of the forum.
And that’s what that item is.

I have two Amerikilts and that’s all I need of that type.
Maybe not my choice, but I certainly applaud “more choices” in general.

Oh, I don't think anyone was poo-pooing them for being contemporary, it was more the perception that they were poorly marketed and of poor quality. I'd welcome a well made contemporary kilt at the price point.

    Best regards,

    Jake

Larry's comment and Jake's response make me feel like I should give some reasons why I wouldn't want a "Practikilt."

    1. The general styling is a direct UK knockoff, but with UK's best features ignored.

    2. The cargo pockets on the outside- I don't like them on UK's, FK's or anywhere else, but at least on UK's or FK's, they can usually be removed.

    3. Pleat depth. The pleats are very shallow if the pictures on their website are any guideline. It gives the whole garment an A-shaping that makes it look more like a ladies' miniskirt. (I have no objection to men's sk**ts in general, but think that men's clothing should have a masculine style, which the Practikilt lacks for me.)

    4. The fell seems to be sewn down for over half the garment, exacerbating point #3 above.

    5. looking at the Museum Replicas main site (where the Practikilt page redirects to), and seeing what they offer as "traditional" kilts, shows a lack of knowledge about kilts in general.
