Gunter, you said unformal....maybe some nice bomber style windbreakers from places like Lands End, LL Bean, Orvis. Or a bomber style jacket from a golf course pro shop. If there are inside pockets you can also forgo the sporran.

Or just wear a vest, or one of those "fleece" warm up style jackets made out of old water bottles.

This is a light weight golf/bomber style from the Mirage Casino in Las Vegas

This is a replica War 2 tanker's jacket with Thinsulate added to keep the wind out.

Jean jackets look great with kilts too.

I found a few threads about sports jacket conversions while researching my own project and here are the links.

There are many many more I'm sure, but that aught to get you started.

    Greetings Gunter,

For an informal and light weight jacket I chose one from www.leatherup.com these folks offer a light version of a wool jacket with leather sleeve jacket (for those of us who grew up in the U.S., think letterman's jacket).

    Nice, warm and informal.

    Cheers,

An informal "knockin' around" jacket that I like is the Dickies Eisenhower /Mechanics jacket:

(sorry the pic is so dark, it was a typical soft Washington day )

It comes in a few different colors.

I like the lined jacket -- it goes for $37.99:

There's also an unlined version -- it goes for $32.99:

Thanks, Terry for the Dickies link. Some good informal options there.

For general wear on cool days, I wear Stillwater's leather kilt jacket. It's good quality for the price, it's comfortable, and it looks great with my kilts.

Guys maybe you can help. I was at an event last month and the company rep I met had a striking jacket.

Lovett Blue, heavy material almost like a thick wool

The jacket was like a day jacket but it looked like a doublet

    See this link

    http://www.highlandclans.co.uk/Kilt_Doublets.html

but with the look of a day jacket, it had a raised military collar, gauntlet cuffs, but no tails so it was not all together similar to the Sheriffmuir Doublets

flat braided epaulets made of the same jacket cloth

So needless to say, I am totally confused.

    Any thoughts?

Is this something that can be for day wear or evening wear? My confusion got worse when I saw he wore it with a polo t-shirt and no vest.
