Another Zonie here. But its usually about five degrees cooler in the canyonlands than down in Phoenix.
One solution is to wear a cotton kilt (this a Utilikilt Survival II) and wade out into 45 degree river water.

Then, when you get out, if there's any wind at all you have a virtual swamp cooler.

I was in the Caribbean recently for an extended period. The temp was in the mid-80's by day, low of 72 at night. I wore a SWK there, and found it very comfortable. I expected that because I have found them very comfortable to wear in the high heat and humidity of a New York summer (90's both in heat and humidity).

In a lightweight 4-5 yards casual kilt I feel comfortable at least up to 30 C = 86 F.

My kilts work very well in the heat. Plus, men can avoid that "marshy" feeling in a kilt.

I've found that my SportKilt is the best one for hot weather. It's thin, light, and durable. Just don't get caught in a strong breeze !

I've worn my kilts in St. Croix in the summer complete with PC one day and yes it was hot. Of course once the breeze came in the evenings I was fine.

Did you see anyone wearing contemporary kilts out there in Lanzarote?
I am planning a trip to Gran Canaria in April and envisage wearing a denim Union Kilt or my Utilikilt to travel and carrying shorts to wear at the holiday resort. Wearing the kilt around the resort would be an option. I wore my Freedom kilt in mainland Spain in February where it was very well received, but I am not so sure about the Spanish owned islands such as Gran Canaria where the natives may not be as savvy about modern fashion trends, plus Gran Canaria in April is likely to be hotter than mainland Spain in February.
I never saw any kilts when I visited Lanzarote but that was eleven years ago and I would like to think the kilt trend has advanced since then.

I generally visit the Canaries about twice a year, mostly Lanzarote, which I prefer to the other Canary Isles because of the way the resort has been designed compared to the disastrous planning in Gran Canaria and Tenerife.
I bumped into a kiltie a few years ago in Tenerife, he was over for a friend's wedding and wore his kilt most nights, his kilt was traditional and therefore not suitable during the day.
In Gran Canaria, which i have not visited for a few years, its possible that you might meet a few kilties as it certainly is a more progressive island with its more liberal and trend setting outlook. I think if I visited Gran Canaria again, I might wear my kilt on an occasion.
Certainly Gran Canaria in April is far hotter than mainland Spain but as I say there is a far more progressive and liberal attitude there than most places I know. I would say that the kilt would be very well received there especially with the enormous cosmopolitan population holidaying there. Yup go for it and pioneer constant kilt wearing on that island. We kilt wearers have responsibilty to bring kilt wearing to the masses

In warm weather I wear my Sport Kilts almost exclusively. They are lightweight.

In Tennessee it stays pretty warm, usually. I wear phillabeg fabric that I pleat myself in the warmer months. It's absolutely perfect.
