Thanks for the kind words
Farlander,
Thanks for the kind words, doubt I was the first to think of this, but as we all tend to move through stores I as other tend to be on the lookout for kilt pairings, belts, etc... I have the kilt bug and it’s great

Folks are of course quite correct. For well over 90% of the time, a leather sporran strap is easier, more comfortable and appropriate for typical day and casual evening wear. Note though that the problem with a small, cheap, kilt damaging clasp is just as valid with a leather strap as it is with the chain. Here is a leather sporran strap I made some time ago:

I use the keychain split rings at both ends of the chain. I replaced the triangular D-rings on the mini-belt part so I can switch out my chains as the mood strikes. I have a skull wallet chain I adapted for pub crawls and a couple of sections of a woman's braided wire belt for the more formal occasions.

To make an all leather belt would one just get two exact thin belts, cut the opposite ends of each, and attache the latch ends?

Sure! Or one long belt and cut in half. Where you cut it, attach the clasps.

I thought two belts would allow adjustment

I think the leather and chains sold with entry level sporrans, are included just because they are cheap to make.
That IMHO is the heart of the matter. The only chain I have "came with" my first sporran (bought before I found XMarks) and has damaged my first kilt badly enough to convince me it was a truly foolish economy.
My favorite strap so far is the simple belt that WPG supplies with their sporrans. If I ever feel the need of a black strap I will get a strip of latigo leather, dye it black, and tie it with a surgeon's knot.

I like the swivels It drives me nuts when I clip on my sporran & I have to turn everything around because I have the clip opening facing my kilt. Because if I leave it, it rubs the kilt & wears the material
