Considering a Saffron...opinions requested

I guess it's just human nature to ask a question and hope that the answers support the direction you are leaning in.
I'm very encouraged that a Saffron would be a good, strong choice and useful addition to my wardrobe.

It's not loud at all and you will find it a very valuable addition. It also looks good with lovat green. I have seen two SWK saffron shadow tartans and I myself have a caramel Carhardt (duck cloth) kilt.

Okay, a question for those who wear Saffron frequently.

I've heard a complaint made (more than once) that if a Saffron kilt is worn frequently outdoors that the color tends to fade to a dull color after a while from the effects of constant exposure to sunshine.
Is there any truth in this?

I love the color, but am hesitant to add it to my list because of this complaint.

I don't own one (primarily because I'm not Irish although I think it looks fine); I've heard about the fading issue though but never met anyone who actually complained about it.


On the other hand I didn't think bleaching from the sun was a problem in your neck of the woods.

It certainly is a very rare possibility in this neck of the woods. I do a lot of hillwalking in my green solid colour, and my black solid colour, neither of them see enough warm sun to make a difference. That is until Global Warming really sets in!

Probably the very reason this was the choice of the Irish regiments....no risk of sunlight fading.

Saffron looks like a decent color, especially in the desert like in Ron's pictures.

AND, in a pinch, you can soak the kilt with rice and warm water and make paella!

I tend to wear my Stilwater Saffron for evenings. Love it!

Hey Bold Highlander,

I wear my saffron USAKilts semi-traditional in the sun. I haven't seen any fading problems and we have plenty of intense sun here in the canyonlands since we're both down south and at altitude. Maybe the teflon coating filters it.
