Way to get in her face Greg!
Convener, Georgia Chapter, House of Gordon (Boss H.O.G.)
Where 4 Scotsmen gather there'll usually be a fifth.

I decided long ago to not really care what other people's perceptions of me are.
My philosophy towards life in general is thus:
1) Things will happen which we don't like.
2) When they happen, there are three things we can do:
a) Do something to change it.
b) Cope with it.
c) Ignore it.
3) Do one of the three.
I've found this makes life much easier than it otherwise might be.
In this case, I would, without saying anything, convey the following:
"I see that you fail to grasp the fact that there is more to my personality than outward appearances and rumour would otherwise suggest. I feel genuine pity for you for not being able to ignore the hearsay and penetrate the externals of looks, and look into the ψυχή*."
To adequately send this message, I find that a raised eyebrow and the only the barest indication of a sad, yet almost pitying, smile.
Or maybe I'm over-analysing it.
* ψυχή: psyche, ancient Greek; the soul, conscious self, seat of emotions, organ of thought, and/or mind.

You have to stand up for what you believe in. Some folks call it "obsessed", I call it "dedicated". Good on you for standing your ground and speaking up.

I understand what you are saying. Luckily, no one around here really knows me that well, and all my friends have gone through me "rediscovering" my heritage with me. I dont have many issues with people pigeon holeing me because I dont know anyone who actually cares/understands about Scottish stereotypes. There have been times though when intolerant, ignorant people really get on my nerves and I want to explode as you did. Good on ya for being so passionate about your heritage. From what I have read of your posts your outburst is rather out of character for you so no big deal. We all need to get things off our chests sometimes.

My take on this--she really wanted to get to know you better BECAUSE she knows you're "a man and a half." I think the power of the kilt has worked on her and she actually has the hots for you! She just wanted to find out more about you and is trying to get you to ask her out.
Offer to tell her more about yourself over coffee, or a wee dram, or dinner and a movie.
Good luck!

I have spent a good bit of time and trouble in order to disturb people's pre-conceived notions about how things are. My appearance, manners, occupation, and attitude are an interesting eclectic mix. I like it that way. I do not fit into anyone's "little box" on a form to check off.
Let them wonder, but don't take any **** from anyone.
Now smile and take a deep breath, and remind yourself how wonderful it is to be free.

Not having been there, I can't really know her intentions, but it actually sounded to me like she was trying to start a conversation with you. Maybe that was the only thing she had heard about you, so that's all she could start with. Besides, think about it, she had talked with someone else about you, then approached you on her own. That sounds like interest to me.
Again, I wasn't there, but it sounds like you made a generalization about her when complaining about what you felt was a generalization about you.
