I can't imagine what the weight must be if it's that surprising. A 20 or even a 25oz'er, perhaps?

Well i would say the claim that it is military issue is believable. Only someone in the military would be in good enough shape to have a 37" natural waist! Great find! And it looks like you were able to get it at a steal! The length seems a little odd to me though. I'm 5'6 and wear a 22" length in a Trad..worn just a hair above the navel and with the bottom at the top of my knee. In a "military kilt" the rise (?) is about 3 to 4 inches higher on me. I was taught to wear it ( by my ex-scottish military granpappy) about an inch to 2 inches PAST the bottom of the rib cage to add support, and really i do find it MUCH more comfy then right at the bottom of the rib cage. Do the Canooks not wear em over the rib cage like the Scottish Regiments or did the guy it was made for just have really short legs? Maybe they issued "daily wear" kilts that were worn lower on the waist? With a 27" waist and 41" hips it sounds like this guy was all hips and no meat. Anyway...great buy man! I always love the Black Watch when it's naturally weathered. That tartan Definitely gets better with age and wear!

PS: I find it hilarious that above this obvious gem in the weeds are suggestions from ebay for similar kilts for $44.90. And they are kilts (gag) i wouldnt put on my dog for Samhain! muahahaah. I'm sure if anyone clicked on them it HAD to help this guy sell that authentic kilt. Your prolly lucky the price didnt go up higher with those examples.
