For your first kilt DON'T stress. You don't have to get a hand sewn heavy weight kilt from Scotland. You have many choices to pick from and really get confused.
Take your time and consider the weight of the material you will be getting.

It's color-coded according to the earliest location to which the line has been traced (North America, Northern Ireland, Northern England, Scotland). If a name occurs more than once, it's because it occurs in more than one line. My most recent Scottish surname—from my great-grandmother—is Esplin.
Pick a tartan and start collecting all of them, that's what I did. I have blood ties to five clans and will eventually have all of their tartans in my closet

Welcome from Northern Colorado! Good luck on the first kilt, I would also recommend Jerry with Stillwater Kilts. I have 3 of his kilts and couldn't be happier!

from Toronto, Ontario, Canada, you have quite the list of names there and no end of tartan choices based on those names,
you have Stewart, my mother's maiden name is Stewart, believe me just there you have many tartans to choose from, so if I were in your position I would take a look around and pick the one you like, then go from there.

from WV! You have quite a good list to chose from. The Buchanan tartan is quite handsome. Many of the surnames you listed are of Clan Donald: Allan, Lang, MacCrory, MacDonald, Shaw, and Wilkie. There are many choices for MacDonald tartans. You also have many choices with Stewart and Campbell.

Good luck and enjoy your search!
    David
