I picked one up last year to use in a photo shoot for a friend. The shoot didn't happen and I've never worn the shirt. Not really my style.

I like them - they are slightly more dressy than casual but slightly less dressy than, well, dressy.
I only have a green one at present, must expand my collection!

I'm not too fond of them as I find them costume'y' as well, but wear what you like. I'd agree with matching the shirt and the hose though. Can't wait to see that tank though.

I don't care for them, but if you like the jacobite shirt that is all that matters. But, if you are going for an authentic historical look, this shirt is not accurate.

I have a couple Jacobite shirts, one in black one in dark green. They're comfortable, light weight, and I personally think they're nice looking with a kilt, even if they are a little bit costumey. My girlfriend however, absolutely loves them, and asks that I wear them more often. So, I guess what ever makes her happy lol

You might want to consider a Heritage Shirt from Empire Canvas Works.
Check Panache's reveiw here.
You could dye it the color you want.
I have one on the way.

I think that from what I have heard the biggest objection to the "jacobite" shirt is that it is not historically authentic...with the cheesy lacing at the throat being the biggest hang-up. For something along the same lines but far more authentic try this shirt:

They even have patterns if you want a particular to match your kilt.

I agree with may of those who find the Jacobtie shirt too similar to a costume. That said I do own one and if I were still in shape (read: if I still had the necessary muscles to fill it out) I might feel differently about it. Then again, it would probably still look rather like a costume.

I hate the so-called "jacobite" shirts. They look like 1930's Hollywood pirate shirts! If you want an authentic 18th century shirt with proper long (knee-length) tails, check these out:

I've looked at them a few times, but like others have said, it's just not for me. Those shirts would be great for going to a ren-fair I guess, but they don't seem like a standard day-to-day wearable shirt. I guess my ideas, when it comes to shirts are pretty boring and common - but they are not for me.
