I've got two SWK Standards in BW and MacLaren and use them as my hiking kilts. I had them hemmed to 22" by a tailor out here not for your reason but because I'm short in stature (fireplug shaped). They are gerat for wear and have held up so far. Washed and the pleats needed some touching up but no biggie. When you do go the PV or, even better, the wool route, the kilt will be custom made and the rubbing on the back of the leg should go away. A kilt that is too long will do that to the back of the leg.

    Your kilt is too long!

I will chime in here to re-emphasis that you are wearing your kilt too long. It’s not the fabric, it’s the length. You just need to hike your kilt up a little!!!

My so far only kilt, a 13 oz tank, was custom made, after careful measuring about a dozen times. Looks like I simply need to go to top of knee instead of mid.
I like wearing it but dont have the money to wear it hiking, or get beer spilled on it, or paint, etc. I need a "beater" kilt, perfect for irrigating the garden, etc but still a kilt.

Thanks all, I will include the mentioned makers/distributors in my search.
