A few more pictures.
Friday in Monterey.

On Independence Day, Monterey State Historic Park held a "Living History Day in Old Monterey" with an opportunity to see what life was like in the 1840s.
There was a smithy at work.

Children got to make some rope.

The hurdy-gurdy man played us a tune.

Monterey is always filled with tourists, especially on a holiday weekend. For the first time, I was asked to have my picture taken. After several people had asked if I was a piper, one young lady finally explained that there had been a pipe band in the parade earlier and wondered if I was a member.

The Monterey Games are held in Toto Park, an idyllic venue.

We met up with our good friend Bill and his special mascot.

The Canadian Delta Police Band was the featured guest band.

Everywhere there were bands practicing.

When the afternoon warmed up, we visited a place to cool off. There actually is a brewery smaller than Sulwath; the English Ale brewery in the town of Marina, a few miles away.
Here is the brew master hard at work on a Saturday.

The brew pub is cozy...

And the ceiling is covered with mugs.

For Independence Day, someone had her fingers specially decorated.

And her toes.

Birds of prey.

Several new competitors at the games.

Yaish arrived to compete, accompanied by his lovely bride.

This drum major wears the stunning Meath tartan.

This is the side you wanted to see.

His cap badge.

Be careful with your comments about cyclists, Panache. They have a military battalion!

For those that may be interested, the "skull and crossbones" is the cap badge of the 17th/21st lancers ,an English cavalry regiment. The 17th Lancers,as they were then, was the regiment involved in the "Charge of the Light Brigade".

The second badge is the 8th Highland Cyclist Battalion, a Territorial Force during WWI. The 8th was a Black Watch Territorial Battalion; the 2nd Cyclist Batt. was from the Royal Scots.
Yes, there really was a British Army Cyclist Corps:

The US Army experimented with the idea of bicycles for troop transport as well during the late 1890s in Montana:

I have one of the ACC badges in my collection, but I've been looking forever for a Highland Cyclist/Black Watch pattern badge!
