Welcome to the forum. If you're after making your own, the Xkilt would be a good start to learn from. I'm in the process of making my own. A few words of advice, get cheap but decent fabric for the first few tries, maybe for the first 5 tries. You will likely mess up on the first, and maybe second and third. 5-6 yards may be decent, better to have too much than too little.
If you are looking more for something to buy and need it now kinda deal, I've heard a lot of good things about Utilikilt. They have a worker kilt that sounds like what you would be looking for.

Hello and a warm Celtic from Boston, Massachusetts. The linkie that takes you to Arlan H's X-Kilt is a great way to make the basic contemporary kilt. Where you want it to be a workhorse, build it out of heavy denim or duck cloth that you can get on the frugal. Check out the remainders rack at Jo-Anns - I scored 14 oz Denim for $2.00 /yard in double width. Took all eight yards that was on the bolt. Made one kilt, then made cargo pockets, hammer loop and other assorted add ons. See the D.I.Y. forum, and the search engine is your very good friend.
