I always tuck in my shirts when wearing a kilt for the same reason as 12stones...I don't want my shirt hanging over my belt or sporran. I also like that extra layer of fabric to absorb sweat. Besides, I like to show off the tartan more than the shirt.

When I went bowling, I had my 50's era bowling shirt un-tucked. Any of my Hawaiian shirts would also go un-tucked. I guess the tucked in shirt lets everyone see more of the tartan. Still to each his/her own.

It's indeed personal preference -- but I'd say whichever you choose, look in the mirror before leaving the house. I really wish more people did that (and not just kilt wearers). I'm not a fashionista but seriously, you'd think some people never heard of a mirror before.
Having said that, I always tuck my shirt into my kilt, mainly because it defines my body more. I'm not a sculpted bodybuilder or anything, and I try not to wear muscle shirts since I don't have six-pack abs (yet) but I do like wearing my clothes in a way that gives my body a bit more definition.

I'm half way in between on the tucking. My general dress style (either pants for days I'm in the carpentry shop, or kilts when I can) is a tucked in tee shirt, and an untucked (unbuttoned) button up shirt. If I have a meeting, I button the shirt (at least part way) and tuck it in.... but again that's me.
I say wear how you think you look good. That's all that matters.

Here's my rule of thumb as far as shirts: if it has buttons, tuck it in.

Hello Cass,
To tuck or not to tuck.......You wear it what ever way suites you best.
Let the mirror or lassies be the judge.
As a Pro westler, the image you portray is important.
IMO I think you would look more smart/sharp in public with the shirt tucked in-
to show off your Kilt and muscles.
Cheers

As a former Pro Wrestler I know that the image is important. I had a trainer who was quick to say that the old saying "You only get one chance to make a first impression" was really true in wrestling.
But a gimmack is alot easer to sell if you are comfortable in it and it is an extention of your real self.
With all that said I say do what is comfortable and what is easiest for you to sell. It may be to that the untucked shirt may make some spots easier.
That's my humble opinion.

P.S. When I was trying to come up with a gimmack I thought of a Scottish angle but the kilt was to expensive. Wish now I would have known about some of the inexpensive models available.

My general rule of thumb is if going out then everything is tucked in.
Relaxing at home sans belt and sporran then shirt is likely to be pulled out.
No hard and fast rule setting here though, what works best for the individual and makes them look and feel good is fine.
