    hmm, it's not him then

    he does have some title, as a guy i worked with read the letter.

    we used to joke about him being lord elph...., but the letter said baron.

    it was a good few years ago, i'll have to ask the guy again what it said.

    There are all sorts of barons, feudal barons, lairds, baronets, baronies, baronages, etc. Some are quite bogus and can be bought online from rather dubious people who will give you a very colorful and seemingly impressive document attesting to the fact that you have in fact been successfully separated from your money. Some are only semi-bogus and granted by deposed monarchs, claimants to non-existant thrones, and such or their descendants (sometimes very, very distant descendants) of various sorts or those close to them.
