First X-Kilt, in camo

That is a good looking kilt - it looks really neat.

Will we be getting pictures of it being worn?

I do all my DPM materials cut across from selvage to selvage - it is easy enough to join the pieces at the inner fold of a pleat, and it puts the pattern the right way round - you have to do the same with pinstripes and corduroy, but it is no problem.

I join from the lower edge to the bottom of the fell on the sewing machine and then sew the rest by hand once the taper has been put in.

I don't think it is really vital with all DPMs as the direction is not so obvious with all the different modern patterns, at least - it looks that way to me. With most of the older patterns it is obviously directional, I think.

Thanks, all. I am still chugging away, made most of two cargo pockets before deciding they were too small and would look "under" proportion. Fortunately had lots of excess fabric

so have made two more, larger cargo pockets. Put in smaller inner pocket devices sized for cell phone, pen, etc. so stuff wouldn't just fall to the bottom.

We just got back from dinner, NOT a good time to measure Bob up for the Velcro placement

but hope to get that settled later tonight, finish up the details tomorrow and get some "on person" shots for you.

Also hit Home Depot, for $4 got a 3-inch black webbing belt that will set this off nicely.

Finished and in the wash to remove chalking. No "model" pix until Bob gets home this afternoon, but here are the remade cargo pockets showing gussets and inside pocket detail. The HD belt looks great on it and I promise final shots this evening. Thanks again for all your comments so far.

I do like the vertical bar tacking that others have used -- I debated vertical vs. horizontal (at fell), went horizontal this time but will go vertical in future. It just accentuates the pleat lines vs. interrupting them. There are a few other "dirty little sewing secrets" hidden in this first version

but that's what first projects are all about!

Next up: heavier weight, medium green demin found on Joanne's red tag table for 1/2 price, 100% cotton, $2 yard, I think it's wide enough to get two kilts from the length. Guess what the brothers-in-law are getting for Christmas!

Bob does so love having his picture taken

but he is a good sport to "dress up" for me after a long day's work. I think the reverse pleat will behave once the front apron is pulled up and belt adjusted properly, also cargo pockets will align -- this is just thrown on. One bro-in-law is already on board, must go snap up more camo material before it disappears from the remnants table!
