You might consider a tartan bow tie and cumberbund...

    from both southern US coasts!

Got to say no to the plaid...but if you can get away with it, perhaps some tartan socks?

I would suggest not wearing the fly plaid as it just would not go with a tuxedo. You could change into a kilt for the reception if you want.

I agree with McMurdo. Fly plaid and tux would look dire and when you look at the photo's in 20 years time you'll be saying "what on earth was I thinkin'"
Wear a kilt in the evening.

Welcome from Fort Worth! I agree with the others that wearing a fly plaid with the tux just wouldn't look quite right. I like the idea of just waiting for the reception and wearing your kilt then; wish I'd thought of that for my wedding!

I don't fully agree; Back in the '60's in Australia & England, knee length Cloaks were in fashion for men, and actually looked quite smart with a suit. I reckon a Fly Plaid could look fine, it is a somewhat dashing garment, after all.
We're all just so used to seeing it with a Kilt, and think it would look odd any other way (to us Kilties).
I reckon it would certainly add a unique touch. Try it and see how it looks - if no good, you can use it as a throw rug over a chair, or table cloth in the Dining Room.
And welcome from North Hollywood California.

People wear plaid with trews. If you're going to wear a tux, maybe a tartan vest or bowtie. What else would a Scot wear to a wedding though? Italian Pants? A Polynesian Grass Skirt? Germain Leiderhosen? Unless it's jeans it's probably not "American" and if it's not a Kilt it's probably not Scottish. </commentary>
