Wear it where it's the most comfortable. Remember what Hamish says- there are no rules.

Wow. At first I thought, someone as large or larger than me. But NOOO. You are stout sir I call myself "Fireplug Stout" at 240lbs and a 46" waist. I like to wear my kilts higher, a tad above the navel and just below the crook in my arm. Looking good fellow Wood Badger (EC 461W).

My first thought was that the first picture looks better but I think it may be the short hose throwing me off in the second pic. McNulty looks great in his too.

Matty -- from the photos, you look great. Don't sweat it. Wear it early, wear it often.

Personally, when I die, I want people to look into the and say "Eeeak!! Well, he had a good time, didn't he?"

Just a quick comment here. My wee brother, wears a size 56 suit coat, and has a 50" waist, his "8 yard" kilt took almost 10 yards! He wears braces (suspenders to Yanks), which puts the kilt up where it hangs best, and is comfortable.
I have also noticed that the youngest of the dancers also wear braces, they ain't got no hips neither!

My wife and I were out hiking at Grand Mesa and got caught in a storm. The ground is covered in small hail and the shirt says "Great minds think a pint". Boy did I want one after the storm.

Surely you must find the kilt a comfortable garment to wear with a fuller figure - and it does hide a multitude of sins (too many pies, hot dogs, ice-creams)

Hey! You look great. My first kilts were size 50" (Currently wearing 44" and hoping to go smaller). The higher rise helps disguise any paunch and you actually look slimmer than with p@nts.
