Our RSCDS demo team went to Japan a few years ago. They are excellent dancers over there.

Great pictures! Thanks for taking us along.
I have always tempered my killing with respect for the game pursued. I see the animal not only as a target but as a living creature with more freedom than I will ever have. I take that life if I can, with regret as well as joy, and with the sure knowledge that nature's ways of fang and claw or exposure and starvation are a far crueler fate than I bestow. - Fred Bear

    Japanese Games

Posers? Plastic Scots? Wearing non-clan affiliated kilts? Are they all hand sown? Bagpipes and highland dancers no less. Should I book my next vacation to Japan so I can insult those wearing a kilt and tell them to stick to scotch and tartan scarves.
Hardly, I think they look great as a group and have no problem with the diaspora of Scottish dress, heritage including Burns Days or the latest in designer fashions, culture or whatever.
Great post and I support these endeavors whole heartily.

Tim: What a small world! I'm not sure how your brother did but he looked very intense -- making him a great subject to photograph!

muir: aside from all that, there were still more than a good number of authentic Scots who WERE wearing clan-affiliated tartans. In fact, it surprised me how many Scottish people live/work in Japan. I was completely shocked to see a Royal British Legion tent with this year's poppy appeal (that's what you see me wearing in the photos)...

Finally, FWIW, I would pay money to see a sumo wrestler in a kilt!!!

To plagiarize Robert,...Fantastic. I didn't know they had Scottish Games in Japan. Maybe one day we'll see the caber, the hammer, and the putting of the stone in the Olympics.
