The true question now is will you be wearing a kilt for Thanksgiving if you are an American? Should you wear a kilt for Thanksgiving?
I tried to ask my inner curmudgeon before posting, but he sprayed me with the garden hose…
Yes, I have squirrels in my brain…

Why wouldn't you? I wear a kilt most every day, I'll be wearing one on Thanksgiving.

I have, in fact, worn the kilt for thanksgiving dinner in the past.

It also looks like this was covered a ways back:

I think you're right Panache - like I said, to me the kilt is not a costume. It's a garment. Maybe I am over thinking this.

I'll be wearing mine during trick or treat, and perhaps even at the mall for the mall's trick or treat. then again, perhaps not, since mine is a all black one, at night....

I still hope to find a way to nab a second kilt at the ren fest, overly priced, yes, but I can make sure it fits then and there...

Though I would rather have a SWK, and could still get it in time, I don't have the $$ yet, and maybe not even this weekend, depending on the paycheck friday.

One of these went on for 14-pages. My quick recap, some say yea and some say nay.

Personally, I don't wear my kilt as a costume, but I would (and have) incorporated my kilt into my costume, just as would my trousers. Do what you want.

    Best regards,

Last year I wore my belted plaid, etc. and went to a halloween party as the ghost of a slain highlander from the battle of Culloden. It got rave reviews. I wouldn't ever wear my modern kilts as a costume because they aren't a costume and I don't want to portray them as such.

I've done something similar in the past, with a two-handed claymore slung on my back. (The sword usually just hangs on the wall.)

I also painted half my face blue (a la Mel Gibson), and, knowing how very unhistorical I was, felt very costumed. No one mistook my plaid for a modern kilt, but several liked the outfit and struck up conversations about kilts in general. Even a few attractive younger ladies who wouldn't have given an old guy the time of day in trousers!

I'll be out of town for a Scottish festival that weekend so I'll be kilted Halloween night, and one very good reason is pointed out by thescot above.

If they want to think it's a costume that's up to them. I'll wear what I like.

To gaelicscots, Ted Crocker, sathor, and Wicked Pissah oh I mean emolas,
Well first and foremost, please, if it's O.K. with you, let me start by saying hello to you and thank you so much again for the kind welcome some of you have given. I certainly hope I made the right choice by signing up on this "Board".
Gaelicscots, yes indeed I'm an American of deeply rooted Scottish ancestry and furthermore I'm very much aware that the majority no longer nor have spoken or written in Auld Scots or the Gaelic language and it's varying dialects in Scotland for quite some time now. Not that I need your approval or anyone elses for that matter, but you ask why. I belong to a group of people that happen to study the Gaelic language and also speak and write in the Auld Scots. So sorry if that bothers you. Should we stop wearing kilts as well since many in Scotland no longer wear them? You chose the screen name gaelicscots. Do you speak the language, do you have a passion for your family, it's history and how it relates to you or do you simply not care and go about chastising others who have a love for such things and are passionate about their roots as well has life itself? It's a pity really and although I could go on, the more I sit and write this it merely is all a waste of my time and that is something precious to me.
Emolas, wicked pissah, need I say more. I can't wait to meet you on a New England Kilt Night. I'm truly looking forward to it. When will that be ? I do hope you can make it. If I'm reading peoples humour or humor correctly I have a feeling I'll be making many new friends here.
Sathor, we should count ourselves lucky that we have you and others policing us newbies and how we write (Mr. 66 posts, I guess you just popped out of the womb perfect now didn't you !)
Ted Crocker, I'm at a loss for words, but one things for sure if one person throws a rock, you'll jump right on in, but has the old saying goes you act so tuff when you're in a crowd but when you're alone you don't sing loud.
Well this has all been really fun. I can't thank you all enough. At the end of each and every day what matters to me is that my two kids are proud of their father, who I am, and where our family has come from. If I make some friends here FANTASTIC, if not FANTASTIC, this silly ball will keep spinning either way. I hope that's O.K. with every one else. Now let's all try something different like respecting one another.
I look forward to chatting with everyone in the future. I hope no offense was taken by anyone, I will carry no grudge. Oh, I'll also make sure to write in proper English (whatever that is now, that's another thing that's become an abomination along with speaking it).
    NOW LET'S MOVE FORWARD !
    Sean
