For me, a 10 yard knife pleat to whatever the maker likes, matched vest and plaid.
Yes, that does say TEN YARD! I am BIG Mikey after all, not average Mikey!

I'm hoping to replicate an ensemble like this.

didn't buy any, of course, my sewing is basically limited to bean bags, my ambition at the moment is making a new blanket to improve over last years version which is great when it works. (I just sewed a pocket in the bottom to keep my feet from coming out from under it at night. This year, I hope to improve the pocket.)
Though to be fair, I have ZERO understanding of a sewing machine, so maybe kiltmaking isn't all that far off....

8 yard kilt, pleating to be determined--oh, the beautiful agony of decision.
A waistcoat cut on the bias,
A skirt for SWMBO, if she so desires. I already owe her one skirt.
Goodness, that leaves enough for a kilt, hmmmmm. Perhaps another pleating option, a 5 yard kilt. Perhaps a plaid to Matt's nifty (2 yard) design. Perhaps...
Truth to tell, I'm developing a queue that's almost Alan-esque. 2 kilts worth of wool, a skirt in light PV, and I hope to do another PV kilt before this one.

I also have to admit to a kilt fabric Queue. I currently have Armstrong Ancient 13oz, Dress Stewart 10oz, Blue Thomson 13oz, Pride of Scotland Silver 16oz, Ancient Taylor 16oz and Gillies Ancient 16oz all in wool. Enough for one kilt in each of those. Then there's the four kilts in the xmts tartan. Enough to keep me occupied over the winter months
