I teach at a local university and contract out as a technical instructor. Depending on the contract and employer, I can wear a kilt. While at the university, I always wear a kilt. When I don't, my co-workers ask what's wrong.

I'm a high school English teacher. I've worn my kilt to school every Friday for the past year. My students and the faculty now come to expect it. When I wear one more often, people tend to get confused that it is Friday though.
BTW Rob Wright...just because you want to be an educator, does not mean that you won't be able to wear the kilt to school.

Landscape designer here. I've been with the company I work for now almost six months. We can't wear kilts or shorts because, as the owner puts it, "It's not safe". I'm doing the exact same thing I did job wise at the other company I worked for previously. There I was allowed to wear the kilt.
I'm not going to push the issue though, it's not that big a deal in the greater scheme of things.

I've heard the "Not safe" argument before. It's always about OSHA or other State safety regulations. But, when I ask for documentation, I never have gotten anything. The closest I've got to safety regs not allowing a kilt is a "loose clothing hazard" but not anything specifically prohibiting a kilt.
I suppose that when confronted with something that makes managers uncomfortable, the first response is a "regulations" or "safety" argument.

I'm a programmer for a Large Government Organization. Our little section of heaven has a standard "business casual" dress code. I've run the idea past our "den mother" (most of the true managers work off site), and she'd prefer that I not be kilted (she's worried about distractions).
I'm hoping for a promotion soon, so I don't want to make waves, but I've been showing pictures of myself kilted to co-workers to start easing them into the concept, so nobody will be shocked. My thought is that if women can wear knee-length skirts, the so should men.
Then, again, I telecommute 2-3 days a week, and I'm ALWAYS kilted at home.
As an aside, I've been amused by the number of programmer/analyst types that have replied to this thread.

Another kilted educator here. At my high school job, only on Tartan Day and to the prom. At the Community College, every night unless we are doing dissection labs (I haven't gotten around to getting a PC lab jacket yet)

I work phone tech support for one of the top 10 PC makers in the world. I checked, if I walked in with a kilt, just be sure I have hose on because "they don't want to see hairy legs".

I teach technical theatre. On class room days, I generally wear kilts, when I'm in the shop teaching construction or in the theatre high on ladders, its pants or shorts (after all I'm a modest kind of guy)

I envy you folks; I'd get written up in a heartbeat if I tried to do such a thing.
"out of uniform" comes to mind.
