What a great flick! I had not seen it before. I do believe those were Gordon tartans on those Scotties. I had no realized that kilt aprons were worn all day, including when fighting.

As a side note, my Uncle Jim still had the bullet he kept for himself when he served in India. He told me the captured prisoners were tortured in ways that cannot be posted on this forum. He would not have been taken alive.

Now off to bed, tomorrow is here!

Must be the Machine Gun Section of Support Company with those water-cooled .303 Vickers MMGs.

    And about the bullet...

You know the lines from the last stanza of Kipling's The Young British Soldier:

"When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
And the women come out to cut up what remains,
Jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains
An' go to your Gawd like a soldier.
Go, go, go like a soldier,
Go, go, go like a soldier,
Go, go, go like a soldier,
    So-oldier ~of~ the Queen!"

I thought about this very photo last night as I was watching the movie.

Interestingly enough, according to IMDb, this one's exteriors were filmed in North Wales!

How ironic, as the Welsh coal mining village in "How Green was My Valley" was actually in California!
