I wore my new Indian-made (inexpensive but good-looking) laird's dirk to a private Burns Supper this year. I wore a Lee River belt (regular width embossed with a Celtic design and with a Celtic buckle) and a modified black leather wallet strap from Hot Topic to hold it on under my Argyll jacket. It was a lot longer when worn than it looked and to avoid scratching the dining room chair, I unsnapped it and laid it with my balmoral on the living room coffee table. If I had been doing the Address, I would have left it on so I could draw it out with a flourish, OR given the close quarters, I would have laid on a platter with the haggis, held it up with one hand on the scabbard and one on the hilt and drew them apart at chest level, with a flourish. Like Beloitpiper though, I imagine my jacket would have covered the hilt of my dirk unless I held it forward out from underneath. I'll have to wear it again soon to get a good picture.
