An amateur photographer myself, I only have one reservation about the Survival. Correct me if I am wrong, but they are attached with velcro, no? I am not sure I would trust my lenses to be supported by velcro, no matter how strong the velcro is.
But that could just be me.
Either way enjoy!

The pockets have snaps. Fairly sturdy ones.

Nice, strong snaps. With a flap that comes down to cover the kilt-side snaps when you take off the pockets. The backside of the pockets have 2" belt loops for attachment to any other garment (including pants!).

I shoot for a living. (Though sadly, rarely in a kilt...2nd rule of wedding photography is to never take attention from the lass in the big white dress!)
The UKSurvivals are made of soft comfy cloth and do indeed have nice strong snaps that I'd trust for a bottle of refreshing beverage, but they are certainly not strong enough that I'd trust them with a $600 lens. (much less an expensive lens!)
Split the difference, get a soft Mocker and carry a Domke bag for your cameras and equipment!

Going to agree here. Even though snaps are better than velcro, I still wouldn't trust anything I couldn't replace with the cash I have on my to a pocket, even if they were permanent.
That said, depending on how/what you shoot, if you only need one lens, those pockets will be awesome for film, lens cloth, light meters, press passes, multi-tools, and whatever else you have to carry around.
good luck,
jim

Thanks, guys. I was just curious. I wouldn't put my lens in any of the pockets, but stuff like filters, extra batteries, flash units...all the little stuff you always think you'll need, but almost never use would be in the pockets. I'm just too protective of lenses and bodies to trust them to anything other than the camera bag or lens cases.
I prefer outdoor pics to weddings...(I hate doing weddings), so a UK might be right up my alley for that.
As always, plenty of great advice on this forum...that's why I'm here checking it out every day..
