I don't hate anything.
I'm not a fan of the period looking stuff. The chieftain vests, the moccasins, belt pouches and such are just not my style. I always thinking it's a bit over the top to try and replicate the 1700's with 2000's replica gear.
I find the fly plaids to be over kill.
I also don't dig the hats too much, but I rarely wear a hat anyway.
I love having a sporran. You just have to make sure that it a) fits right and b) is worn were it should be.
Of course what works for me won't work for everyone else. Being unique is way more fun than being the same anyway.

I really dislike the kilt hose that are so common these days, the ones that cost $15, and are just a bit thicker than contemporary dress socks. I found one company that makes "off the rack" kilt hose that were thick enough to my liking, and bought a few pairs. Other than that, I hate thin kilt hose.
But I agree with Tim Little, "hate" is too strong a word. I 'dislike' thin kilt hose.

What I don't like (or hate, but to strong a word) is the lack of hoses. When I se a guy in kilt and barefoot, it takes some of the masculinity from the kilt.

I hope this thread doesn't turn into a "I hate seeing this on other people" judgemental sort of a thread and more of a "I won't wear a ******* because I dislike them/it on myself." kind of thread.
The first, being rather potentially combative, whereas the second......isn't.
Take this a s a gentle nudge, and if you prefer "dislike" to "hate" then good on ye. I strongly dislike black kilt hose on MYSELF.

I don't like to wear white hose.
I really dislike the look of those little round torries, so I've cut them off all my balmorals.
And I can't say I particularly like those really long laces on ghillie brogues.
Other than that, it's all good!
.
Happiness? I'd settle for being less annoyed!!!

I share your dislike of this look. However, I've seen people make it work! It's just not for me.

I have to specify my earlier reply folks.
It is not my intention to be judgemental or combative. It was just a way for me to discribe a stile I would not go for and it probably came out a bit wrong due to my poor english.
I realy dislike the thought of me in a kilt without the hoses. I will feel less masculine.
But I also agree with Derek that some folks can pull it off.
(By the way, cool website Derek! )

I think garter flashes are a pretty useless appendage, and only wear them for dressy occasions. A decorative vestige of a time when hose garters were worn. with the advent of elastic, there's no need for them.

We must be built very differently. I can't wear kilt hose without them! Elastic just doesn't work for me.
