finlay marquisl,
I am sorry if my response to your question seems to have upset you.
It is not, and never has been, my intent to belittle anyone on this forum.
Perhaps I should explain. I make Kilts for a living. The design I use is from my own mind. I worked out how to do it, I did all the leg work, head scratching, and testing.
I'm proud of my Kilts. I very proud of the Pockets I designed for my Kilts. When I started making Kilts I knew nothing about how a Kilt was put together so I figured it out.
In the process I found that I had designed a totally new style of Kilt. I named it a Contemporary Kilt. (Yes, I coined the word).
Perhaps you can understand that I feel that I need to protect my design. Not all of it, because after all it's just a pleated garment, and people have been making them for centuries. But my pocket designs I do keep close to me chest.
Now, yes, I am writing the companion book the Barb Tewksbury's and Elsie Strumeyer's "The Art of Kiltmaking". Throughout the writing I have had to balance a fine line between writing a step-by-step set of instructions to make a Freedom Kilt and an overall design guide to all the possibilities that the Contemporary Kilt is capable of.
In The Book I will talk about pockets in depth. But I will not tell you how to make my pockets. I will talk about pockets in general. What makes a good one and what makes a bad one. I'll try to include some of the tips and tricks I have shared here in the past and give almost anyone who wants to make their own Kilt enough information to choose what type of Kilt and what type of pockets they wish for their Kilt.
As you may have found out this thing we call a Kilt is one of the most tailored garments ever designed. It is a very complex thing to put together correctly.
Because of this I attempt to help and assist any one who asks get over those hard parts. I have written tutorials, I have made over 2000 posts and most of them have been to help others make their own Kilts.
So, please understand when I do not give out all the details of my design.
If you have a specific question, if you have a snag you just can't figure out I will do whatever I can to help. The only thing I can't do is teach everyone how to produce a Freedom Kilt.
There is another thread about pockets that is currently being discussed. Perhaps that may interest you.
