    I appreciate the advice.

Let me ask the question this way:

An 8 yd. 13 oz. Anderson Ancient from J Higgins would cost $375.

An 8 yd. 13 oz. Anderson Ancient from USAK would be $520.

If it were YOUR money would you spend the extra $145 (nearly 40%) to get the USAK?

This may not be a fair comparison. I may not be talking apples to apples at all, but I don't know enough yet to know the difference.

I have a Semi-trad on order from USAK that is still about 6 to 8 weeks out, so I'll get a look at one first hand in a couple of months, but perhaps there is someone out there who has both and would share their thoughts?

I'm still new enough at this that I'd save my $145 and get the Higgins, just to try out a well-respected merchant, and you'll get a beautiful product, as has been documented here.

So I think it's a win-win. If you get what you're hoping for, you'll get an amazing kilt and one more weapon in your kilt addiction arsenal. If you don't quite get what you're hoping for, you'll still have a very, very nice kilt. Unless everyone at Higgins decides, "It's Lousy Kilt Day!", when your order comes through, you can't lose.

I bought my latest kilt, Maclaine of Lochbuie, red, 13oz fabric, in 2007. It was shipped earlier than estimated, workmanship seemed good.

I asked for, and got the left-over fabric, comes in handy for all kinds of misc. items. I think some of the minor work, waistband, the turn-up on the inner apron, etc. are machine sewn.

Only complaint, was after about a year of wearing multiple times per week, the stitching on one of the buckles started to come undone. It was easily repaired.

I only wish they carried my tartans (there are three for MoL) in PV.

Yes, I would buy from them again.

Higgins sells some dandy diced full hose for $60.00. Nobody can match that price. Got to try a pair some time.
