Sandor7, it's too tight because you've got the over apron pulled clear across the entire "last" pleat on your right side. The right hand edge of the over-apron is completely covering the pleat. NOT!

Reposition the buttons so that the right-hand edge of the over apron lines up with the left hand edge, or the forward-facing edge of the "last" pleat on your right side. That will give you easily another 2- 2 1/2 inches of space and the thing will fit.

That is actually part of the under-apron: I figured I need 10 pleats, and the one under the apron is the 11th. I was trying to tuck some extra material under the apron.

I'm going fabric shopping after I get payed tomorrow. This weekend's not going to be too productive as far as the second project, but I plan to log a few solid hours Monday. Thanks for the compliment.

Second x-kilt is coming along nicely: Pleats are sewn, fell is tapered. I'm now taking final measurements for the aprons. I left an inch above the desired waistline, fore fraying and what-not, and I think I've decided to incorporate that extra material into the length, giving the kilt a more traditional look, as it now sits just below my belly button. The heavy cotton canvas I decide to go with has it's pros and cons: I can iron the pleats and the material holds the crease well enough that I don't have to pin anything down, but conversely, any place where there are more then three layers of material tends to put some strain on the sewing machine.
