OK C@mpbells - don't go and get bent out of shape!
This is an interesting idea but I am not sure who would wear it. I don't think the Campbell clan would and I am fairly sure that the MacDonalds would not.
I don't think I would want to explain to The Campbell or MacDonald Clan Chief or any of their clan members what it was.
I guess the big question would be why a design based on that event? Who would be honored?

Yep--the top one works better, I just have a few adjustments on it. I'll try to post a red version. But in the red, the grey gets lost a bit:

When you're designing tartan, remember to stand back about 20' from a to-scale version on your computer monitor. That way, you can see how the colors combine to give an overall color from a distance. It also allows you to see what elements vanish at a distance.
I'm prompted to say this because, any time you have red elements next to blue elements, the overall impression can be purple at a distance (depending on the relative sizes of the elements). There's nothing wrong with that, and there are several tartans that are spectacularly beautiful because of this effect. But you don't want to be surprised by it!

I've also noticed how not only does the overall color scheme change at distance, it also darkens the colors.
