Just back from a great dinner at McGowan's Irish Inn. Lots of laughter and good times punctuated by fine food and excellent service. There are group shots on other cameras, but here's just a hint of the hijinks:
Richard (way2fractious) trying on Jamie's chapeau for size. Bob asks, if you wear the hat backwards does that mean the deer are stalking you? (That's new-ish forum member Gibbs beside him)

Not to be outdone, Star tries for the Big Mikey look with Richard's full-face skunk sporran.

Two clues as to how the evening progressed. . .
Good night for now!

Since they are so close to 29 Palms I figure they have the USMC Air Ground Combat Center Band along with a pipe band ready to play for him. The Air Ground Combat Center Band has experience playing with pipe bands since they have been at the games in Estes Park for the last 4 or 5 years and will be again this year.

The more the merrier! I'll PM you my cell phone # in case you hit town early. Although we may be up the tram on Mt Jacinto (sp? you know where I mean!) so don't be surprised if my cell doesn't work mid-day.
I wasn't in charge of pipe band nor red carpet, perhaps you should check with Madelyn -- I understand she makes the NorCal Burns Supper go off without a hitch so I'll hand the ceremonial stuff off to her. I'm in charge of Guinness supplies, and the consuming thereof
BTW Jock Scot, your name came up during the creation of that deerstalker shot. . . as in, this one's for you!
Dinner really was fun, lots of friendly people. Last night I forgot about having taken this shot (see above in re Guinness, and the consumption thereof) so here's a look back at the group prior to our being seated at McGowan's.

Wow, what a terrible picture! McGowan's interior colors and lighting were not made for point-and-shoot digital photography. I think there are other shots in other cameras, maybe you'll see a better version later.
Time to get a move on the day. It will be a busy one, so no periodic updates. If I have time, I'll upload some of the day's shots before going off to dinner -- but no promises!

Photos are uploading to Photo Bucket, but in the meantime let me say. . . we are having a wonderful time! Ham and Jim arrived for a short meet-and-greet at the motel this morning, then a kilted group jaywalked across Highway 111 to the miniature golf course (Star stopped traffic for us in her Pink Death Camo). We survived the kilted miniature golfing -- some better than others -- bought lunch at Trader Joe's, then jaywalked back for another extended period of camaraderie on the lawn at the motel. Star, Madelyn and Bob have retired to the pool while the boys have departed for a visit to the air museum. The group, swelled by locals and later arrivals, will meet at Lyon's in just 2.5 hours. This post will be followed by batches of unedited, uncaptioned pix and you'll just have to figure out who is who and what we are doing. I'll get final dinner photos up late Sunday or Monday and perhaps clean up some of these "on the spot" posts for posterity. Hope you have enjoyed the "you are here" nature of this thread!
