Now that is a great idea! That's what I love about X Marks, you put all these disparate heads together and good things come out! I will let you know if I wind up trying either or both of the magnetic closure and elastic.

    Turpin,

I have one of your sporrans and I substituted elastic cord for the bag strings just recently. It works great. The bag itself stays closed well, but opens when I plunge my hand in to find something. I ran the elastic from the back eyelet on one side to the last eyelet on the other side. I don't have the dangling strings and beads any more, but it's OK and it cleans up the look of the sporran.

One thing I have though about but not done is to substitute elastic cord for the drawstrings. That way the back would gather automatically and one would only need to loop the thing over the button. Now to find out how the Highlanders made elastic back in the day.

The closure on these 2 sporrans IMHO is the best there is for "casual" sporrans. This style closure is very EASY to open & close 1 handed & they have stood the "test of time"
