You can usually tell when someone's being sarcastic. If you're sarcasm-dar didn't go off, I'm sure that he was being complementary. But the above posters are right about the Scottish sense of humor, it can be a little harder to detect than American sarcasm.

If you know you are going to need a sit harness for rope work, you'd bring one along, but if you find yourself in need of providing an anchor point for a rope and don't have a harness, you can clip onto your handy-dandy rescue belt. They're big and burly and make great kilt belts.

A few years ago, in college, there was a Scot who always complimented me on my various kilts. Said it made him wish he had taken his kilt here, when he moved to go to school.
It's always good to hear feedback from nationals.

You do know that the Kilt Police have adopted the same tactics of the local goons who mail you a ticket when they take your picture at a stop light, don't you?
Well, after that little confession, the tickets in the mail, Buster.

SWK makes a box pleat in Black Watch?

On my last trip, wearing my tan UK Original, a fellow came up to and said, "Is that a kilt you're wearing?"
I said, "It is. Well, not a traditional one, as you can see, but it's a modern one. I do have a more traditional, tartan one as well, but since I'm out camping, I thought this might work a little better."
To which he responded that he liked it and thought he's mention it as he was from Scotland. He also agreed that a more formal kilt would be rather expensive to take camping where it could get dirty or damaged.
There was definitely no sarcasm there, and he (along with the several Scots I've met whilst kilted) have been most happy and honoured (if not just a little perplexed) that someone would be wearing their country's "national dress."

Yes Stillwater makes a box pleat. For an additional fee Jerry can have a HW kilt box pleated. The only drawback is that instead of having your kilt the next day, it takes about a month.
I have two rescue belts (firefighter) and they work great as kilt belts.

Its great to see Americans and other nations in kilts.
Any one that laughs, I think they are a wee bit envy.
