Then by your logic a white dinner jacket would be just the thing for me

A white mess jacket with a kilt would probably be okay, provided it wasn't made from some sort of polyester fabric. I have a white duck mess jacket that I wear with trews; I've tried it with the kilt, but found that it just didn't look right. It is really a case of too much white above the kilt, which tends to destroy the balanced look achieved with a black evening jacket.
So, like Panache, I'd suggest sticking with black.

One of our members (I can't remember whom) posted pics a year or two ago of a white dinner jacket with Clark blue tartan kilt. IMHO, it didn't look quite right. I say stick to black. Something about the white jacket with tartan is just. . . off.

Here's one old thread with a pic
http://www.xmarksthescot.com/forum/o...umphrey+bogart
Wally posted a pic a few months back with a black kilt and white jacket.
Bottom line I think the Humphrey Bogart tux look could translate well into a kilt if done with care.

Agreed; white jackets should, INMHO, be reserved for "East of Suez". ith:
Now, there is the possibility of "Red Sea Rig" for Summer formal functions, but I would imagine it would look better with trews as well.

I think a white dinner jacket, cut for the kilt might look really sharp. You would have to put the whole outfit together right, but I think it would work.
Now, as others have said, I wouldn't do this for my main jacket. A black jacket would be much more practical, as you could wear it year round. But, if you have enough occasions for two jackets (or you live in the tropics ), go for it.
There are many places that sell cream-colored kilt jackets, both Argyle and Prince Charlie. Since I take a fair number of cruises, and many of them are in the tropics, I have thought of getting a cream-colored Argyle jacket for formal nights. But, at this point, I can't yet justify the additional cost.

White Jacket
There was a thread about a white jacket, (I'm not sure about the term "mess jacket,") from Uniform Warehouse a year or so ago. It was a white waiste length jacket that I thought looked a bit odd with the kilt, but that's just me.
Best Wishes,
David

Hi All,
I found this PDF very informative. Which jacket is which; styles; cuffs; eppaulettes; button placement - in fact a great bit of reference material.
Check out page 5. A white PC and one in 'Harlequin'. Just how would you accessorise that?

Sure Todd, but where I live "East of Suez" extends from Easter nearly to Columbus Day!
