While I've been working on this list myself, I initially invested in black hose. I like black (as in, "Dracula likes black less than I do."). It seemed like a good idea and it goes with almost everything. I also bought all black accessories (belt, sporran belt, sporran, etc.) and my future jacket and waistcoat will be black.

Now that I've spent some time looking at myself kilted, I don't like the black hose on myself for anything but extreme casual wear or black tie formal wear. When I take off my boots and commando sweater and put on my ghillie brogues and a nice shirt, you can't tell the difference from the waist down. As others have pointed out, sometimes it's just too much black (and I never thought I would say that).

I'll be taking the advice to buy colored hose in the future, too.

You have received some good advice already. I suggest your rogue take a look at trying khaki hose with a khaki shirt (What Price glory has very reasonably priced khaki hose http://onlinemilitaria.net/shopexd.asp?id=983&bc=no.)

A nice kilt pin would be great. Get rid of the white hose and get a sporran belt instead of the chain. Put it all together and you'll look smashing.
