I have a survival, 2 workmans, and 2 originals. The survival is my go-to kilt unless I'm camping of doing yardwork and than I wear the workmans. Heavier than the originals and far better pockets. Also have used the modesty buttons to help prevent it from blowing open a few times and when climbing steep hills.

I've got 2 Originals, 1 Mocker, 5 Workmans, and 2 Survivals.
I really like the Survivals and wear them a lot but they are spendy (I scored used ones off of Ebay). The versatility of them is very nice and they have the advantage of the Workmans but in a lighter weight package.

I own 1 orginal, 1 mocker, 1 workman and survival. I wear the survival the most often. It has the avantage of all the others and is the one I wear most often ( although the workman is by far a heavier fabric). The back pockets could be deeper/longer but other wise it is my favorite. It is the most expensive of the four. My friend, who has been wearing UK's a lot longer than I, favors his workman the most with his original second. Don't get me wrong, I love all four for different reasons. The survival has so many pockets I sometimes loose track of wear I put stuff.

I have a black denim (my first kilt), a mocker, a workmans, a blue denim and a survival. The last is my favorite. I don't think I've ever worn the detachable pockets- just use the slash pockets. It's stylish, comfortable, disciplined, and just the right weight. If I were to go on a world tour, the survival would be my daily kilt. (Along with a Tilley hat and vest.) And don't discount the modesty toggles on the survival. All UK's have a narrow apron, prone to blowing between the legs in a headwind and flaring up in cross winds. The survival's toggles keep the mystery alive!
